O tempora! Hi-Fi hobby has grown to a man’s age, and you know it from the fact that an audio company after another announces its 50th Anniversary (or more). This year it is time for the prestigious Australian loudspeaker manufacturer, Krix Loudspeakers, to celebrate its 50th anniversary. What’s unusual is that in 2024, after five decades, Krix is still family-owned, the founder Scott Krix, along with his two brothers Gary and Ashley, still active in the business.
“We are thrilled to celebrate 50 years of Krix, a journey marked by passion, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of audio excellence. This milestone is a testament to our team’s dedication and our customers’ unwavering support. As we look ahead, we are excited to continue pushing the boundaries of audio engineering and delivering unforgettable sound experiences”, says Gary Krix, CEO of Krix.
The company was founded in Adelaide, Australia in 1974. The first speakers were designed and made for DIY enthusiasts. These speakers gave birth to the first complete series of commercial speakers, the so-called Home Grown Series in 1978, a year before establishing company’s own factory. In the 1980s, multiplex-cinemas became more and more common and desperately needed suitable speakers for their theaters, which demand Krix successfully met for the next 20 years. Today, Krix speakers can be found in more than 4,000 cinemas in 40 different countries around the world. At the turn of the 21st century, the speaker selection expanded to home hi-fi speakers. In 2003, David Murphy, Krix’s Senior Cinema Speaker Design Engineer, was awarded an Australian patent for the constant directivity horn speaker and a few years later for the waveguide design. This explains why all Krix cinema and home theater speakers always sport a horn element of some sort. In 2017, Krix started a collaboration with Trinnov, and in the same year, the fullrange Krix Heretix horn speaker was introduced. In recent years, the company has been very active in designing and manufacturing cinema speakers for international markets.
To commemorate the significant occasion, Krix announces a year-long celebration filled with events, competitions, tradeshows and more:
